Project Timetable

March 1999
Artists and School Grounds seminar organised by artist Hattie Coppard for Primary Schools in Hackney Wick

June 1999
Publication Artists and School Grounds circulated free to 80 schools in Hackney.

December 1999
Hattie Coppard appointed to undertake consultation and development work on Daubeney Primary School playground with funding from SRB budget.

March 2000
Experimental Playground Week takes place at Daubeney Primary School.

September 2000
Kinnear Landscape Architects contracted to work with Hattie Coppard on design of playground using findings of Experimental Playground Week.

November 2000
Presentation by Hattie Coppard and Lynn Kinnear of ideas/findings to teachers, governors, pupils and parents.

March 2001
Design proposals formulated – presented as public exhibition and range of opportunities for teachers/pupils to respond to proposals.

April 2001
Designs worked up into final details and specifications. Fundraising for capital works through National Lottery/Grounds for Change.

June 2001
Evaluation Study by Eileen Adams published on Experimental Playground.

July 2002
Capital scheme put out to tender – Baylis awarded contract.

September 2002
Work commenced on site – Construction Phase I.

April 2003
Construction Phase II and completion of capital works.

June 2003
Celebrations at school: residencies by dancer and poet.

July 2003
Formal opening of playground

Evaluation on use of the Playground undertaken by New Economics Foundation and the school as an ongoing project.
