Nine Mile Run

Summary

Since 1996, an interdisciplinary team of artists, scientists, ecologists, engineers, historians and planners has been researching the cultural issues and ecological opportunities of the Nine Mile Run development site in Pittsburgh, USA. Directed by artists Bob Bingham, Tim Collins and Reiko Goto, and attorney John Stephen, the team has explored the reclamation of this polluted and eroded stream valley using art as a process and a means to change public perception, ecological restoration as a method and philosophy, and community participation. The project offers a transferable model for the reclamation of other brownfield sites.
