Artists opportunity: Felixstowe Coastal Path Artist Research and Design Phase
Felixstowe is a seaside town with a 3 mile long coastline, running from the charming and intimate Bawdsey Ferry, to the massive scale Felixstowe Port, the largest container port in Britain. In between is a long history of defence, from both the sea and human invaders.
An artist is sought to develop ideas for a coastal path that will excite the imagination and draw people to explore the full 3 mile coastline on foot and cycle.

Can you help shape the arts in the south west?
Arts Council England is the national development agency for the arts, investing public money from government and the National Lottery to support the arts. The organisation has nine regional arts councils that support the work of national council and the regional offices, and advocate for the arts in England. The Arts Council is seeking to appoint nine regional council members, of whom five should be Local Authority members, to its south west regional arts council.
Candidates should:
• have a knowledge and understanding of the arts and the region
• be able to command respect within the arts constituency
• have the ability and willingness to act as an advocate for the arts
• be an imaginative and strategic thinker with the ability to contribute to effective decision-making
• be committed to diversity in its broadest sense
We would particularly like to encourage individual artists and those with experience in the areas of dance, music, literature, diversity and community arts. We’d also like to hear from candidates based in the Unitary Authorities of Bournemouth, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon, Poole, Torbay, and Plymouth, and the counties of Devon, Dorset and Wiltshire.
The time commitment for the role is five meetings per year plus occasional attendance at performances / events in an ‘ambassadorial’ capacity. Members of regional councils serve on a voluntary basis, although expenses are paid, and must live or work in the region.
An application pack can be obtained by writing to: Michelle Langridge, Executive Assistant, Arts Council England South West, Senate Court, Southernhay Gardens, Exeter, EX1 1UG, or by email:
