Publications: Urban Design/Regeneration

Advances in Art and Urban Futures

Vol. I : Locality, Regeneration and Diver(c)ities (PB) (2003)
As British cities lose the cultural connections with their industrial past, many seek to build new post-industrial futures through urban regeneration. Arts projects play a key role in policy making that aims to regenerate neglected neighbourhoods. These essays look at the ways in which new cultural institutions tend to be flagships for regeneration.
Editors: Sarah Bennett, John Butler. ISBN 1841500755.

Vol. II : Recoveries and Reclamations (HB) (2002)
Brings together contributions from artists, sociologists, architects and cultural theorists in addressing the recoveries and reclamations being made within urban and rural landscapes as a result of the fallout of redevelopment in the 21st Century.
Editors: Daniel Hinchcliffe, Judith Rugg. ISBN 1841500550.

Vol. III : Cultures and Settlements (2003)
Considers the making of settlement as a process of identity formation. Taking the position that a culture signifies a way of life, it asks how cultural frameworks inform patterns of settlement, and how the built environment, as process and design, conditions cultural production and reception.
Editors: Nicola Kirkham, Malcolm Miles. ISBN 1841500895.

Vol. IV : Interventions (2005)
Looks at how cultural interventions and initiatives affect the development of cities. It draws together policies and projects from the UK, Lithuania, India and North America, with case studies and research evaluating public art and cultural interventions in three UK regions and in Barcelona.
Editors: Malcolm Miles, Tim Hall. ISBN 1841501182.
