Art Across The City 2013 are pleased to announce their Spring 2013 programme of public art commissions across Swansea. There are twelve artworks to be seen across the city. Five have been newly commissioned and seven are permanent.
The new commissions are by artists: Pete Fowler, Olaf Breuning, Sinta Tantra, David Long and Philip Cheater.
On the facade of a former nightclub opposite the train station, Pete Fowler’s largest work to date celebrates Swansea’s most famous son, Dylan Thomas, with quirky reference to his writing and affectionate nods to Swansea; Sinta Tantra’s colourful mural references her Balinese heritage, dominating 229 High St with two 6 metre golden palm trees; Olaf Breuning’s monumental sculptures are covered in irreverant doodles and ask two simple questions: Yes? NO?; Outside the Dylan Thomas Centre, attached to a huge scaffolding rig, David Long has created a heraldic celebration of Swansea, complete with the opening line from Dylan Thomas’ Under Milk Wood – 'To begin at the beginning'; and Philip Cheater has taken inspiration from Swansea’s architecture and skyline for three large sculptures that appear to both submerge into and emerge from the green outside of the Guildhall.
Seven permanent commissions further support the programme. These include works by artists: Sean Puleston, Rik Bennett, Bristow Lloyd, Bedwyr Williams, Bermingham and Robinson, Mark Folds and Niamh McCann.
