Birmingham Big Art Project; Shortlisted artists

The Birmingham Big Art Foundation is commissioning a major new work of public art for the city of Birmingham supported by Arts Council England, Birmingham City Council, The Birmingham Civic Society, Birmingham City University with Eastside Projects as Commissioning Agent. A VIP event on Thursday 2nd June 2016 at Millennium Point, Birmingham, will launch an exhibition of the five shortlisted artists’ proposals. This will be followed by a public launch hosted by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham at noon, on Saturday the 4th of June 2016.

The shortlisted artists are;

  • Brian Griffiths
  • Roger Hiorns
  • Heather and Ivan Morison
  • Susan Philipsz
  • Keith Wilson

The exhibition at Millennium Point runs from the 4th of June to the 31st of August 2016. This is the first in a series of public exhibitions of the artists’ proposals, which will be touring to the Library of Birmingham and Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery later in the year.

In January 2017 one of the shortlisted artists will be invited to take the commission and in May 2018 the completed artwork will be unveiled.
