Bright Light to showcase cutting-edge public art projects as part of Vancouver's 2010 Winter Games

Date uploaded: November 11, 2009

Bright Light will turn a spotlight on the vibrant arts community in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside in 2010.

Part of the City’s Olympic and Paralympic Public Art Program, the Bright Light program brings together the creative energy of 14 local art organisations to present innovative public art projects along and around the Carrall Street Greenway before and during the 2010 Winter Games.

From December 2009 through March 21, 2010, Bright Light will showcase cutting-edge public art projects, from a world tea party, choreographed performance brawl, and light and video installations, to an Aboriginal arts festival, publications and community events. Designed to illuminate the breadth of creativity that exists in the neighbourhood, the multi-dimensional program takes public art to both new and familiar places: laneways, courtyards, parks, galleries and city streets.

Bright Light is the collaborative effort of artists and arts organizations that are based and/or active in the Downtown Eastside.

All Bright Light events are free for the public. Details about programming, times and locations of events can be found at: www.bright-light.ca

The City of Vancouver’s Olympic and Paralympic Public Art Program is an ambitious collection of newly commissioned artworks for 2010. The program includes more than 20 public art projects encompassing large-scale legacy installations and artist-initiated artworks.
