Helvetictoc Returns to Durham

Lumiere Durham's quirky clock projection is to make a permanent home in the city.
Fans of Lumiere Durham will have seen Tobie Langel's witty projection 'Helvetictoc' at the festival in 2011 and 2013. A homage to a much-loved typeface and also the almost-forgotten act of asking someone the time, it will return to the city on Wednesday 26th February, making a permanent home in Millennium Place. Projected onto Clayport Library, it was purchased by Durham County Council (who commissioned Lumiere) with the help of £10,000 from The Banks Group.
Durham Council leader Simon Henig said: "Helvetictoc has amused the crowds as part of the world-class Lumiere light festival twice now and I am delighted it will become a timely reminder of the importance of art and culture in County Durham. It is charming in its simplicity, practical in its message and a really fitting permanent addition to Millennium Place.”
