Jordan McKenzie exhibition opens at Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Date uploaded: March 5, 2014

Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) presents Carl An(t)dre + LeWitt Lean, a new exhibition in YSP's Boat House by artist Jordan McKenzie. The exhibition examines two new films and costumes – used in recent performance work made at the Park – that explore the relationship of sculpture to performance practice and art history.

Forming part of his wider ongoing series of works, Minimal Interventions, McKenzie’s new films examine themes of authenticity and authorship by momentarily poaching the work of another artist in order to inhabit it for his own ends. Carl An(t)dre (2014) shows a performance by 20 young people dressed as ants, creating structures inspired by Carl Andre’s infamous brick art work Equivalent VIII, (1966) and LeWitt Lean (2014) shows performers leaning on Sol LeWitt’s sculpture, 123454321.

Exhibition open daily 11.00–15.00. Jordan McKenzie: Carl An(t)dre + LeWitt Lean is accompanied by a new publication, available to buy in store and online.
