LANDMARK Public Art Programme – Invitation to Connect

Lough Lannagh in Castlebar, County Mayo, will be a hive of creativity over the weekend of April 20th-22nd 2012. This weekend marks the official launch of 18 month long public art programme ‘LANDMARK’ and the weekend will have a broad range of activities including launches, music performances, light displays, workshops, tours, boat-trips and talks at the picturesque location in Castlebar.

The Landmark public art programme was developed through pooling of Percent for Art funds to create a collection of commissions for a wide range of artists, working in a number of art forms. Key to the thinking behind the programme was a desire to strategically commission works that would complement each other in the same environment, provide a focus for a range of contemporary public art responses to one area, and attract artists working at all levels, from emerging to well established. Professional development for local artists was also of high importance in the planning of the programme.

CONNECT - A professional development training programme for local artists was developed and delivered over the duration of the public art programme. This has been planned in collaboration with artist Aideen Barry. The weekend will also include a wide variety of professional development opportunities for artists.
