Portability: Art on the Move

The London Legacy Development Corporation is looking for participants in a gathering of mobile art vehicles from across the UK on the 21st and the 22nd of September 2014. The event will celebrate and explore what mobile art practices mean today and how they have influenced contemporary art in public spaces. It is part of series of summer events taking place at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Portability: Calling All Mobile Art Vehicles, 20th and 21st September

Portability is a gathering of mobile art vehicles from across the UK on 21st and 22nd September. There is currently an open call for all art vehicles on land, sea or air, to get involved in the weekend event which will celebrate and explore what mobile art practices mean today and how they have influenced contemporary art in public spaces. 

The event will be complimented by a free programme of talks, discussions and artists films.

Force Field Arcadia: Artist Talk with Tod Hanson and landscape critic and historian Tim Richardson

5pm, Saturday 21st June, meet at Timber Lodge Cafe, north Park.

Local artist Tod Hanson created a new temporary artwork for the north Park inspired by the history of picturesque English landscapes, the Park’s past and its future.  Tod will be joined by Tim Richardson, a landscape historian and critic who specialises in the 18th-century English landscape garden and contemporary landscape architecture worldwide to discuss his latest work. The talk will be hosted by curators Danielle Arnaud and Jordan Kaplan of Paraboloa, who have curated the Park’s temporary art programme.

Global Streets, Greenwich & Docklands International Festival (GDIF), 23rd – 27th June, South Park Lawn

GDIF is a festival of free outdoor performing arts which will be welcomed to the Park for their ‘Global Streets’ performances, a midweek evening programme of  outdoor theatre close to the ArcelorMittal Orbit.  The line-up includes performances from Britain’s leading African theatre company and the UK premiere of a Chilean street theatre complete with live music, ingenious staging and fire effects.

Great British Carnival, 27th July from 12pm to 9.30pm


Marking the midway point between the London and Rio Olympics, the Great British Carnival will create a dance event with music, performance and costume suitable for the whole family.  The day will showcase the best of UK carnival arts featuring a programme of pop-up parades, mask-making workshops, live music and performances from young musicians, rappers and poets.  It will also host the world premiere of The Carnival of the Animals: a twilight crescendo of costumed performers, 300 dancers, giant carnivalesque creatures and extraordinary illumination.
