The Scottish Arts Council's Public Art Plan and Fund

Date uploaded: October 21, 2008

The Scottish Arts Council's summary Public Art Plan (2008/09) outlines priorities for this year. The Council’s new Public Art Fund is an open application scheme running until 31 January 2009, with no deadlines.

The Council has broadened the scope of public art projects that it supports to include temporary, permanent, cross-artform and multidisciplinary work. The Public Art Fund is aimed at attracting original proposals – from a broad range of organisations – to produce exciting and innovative public art across Scotland.

The key elements to the work the Council will support are:

  • non-arts location (public space rather than gallery, theatre etc)
  • public engagement
  • innovative approaches
  • ambitious ideas
  • artistic quality.
