Sparked with Keith Wilson
18th April – 30th June 2013

Sparked is part of the View Tube’s Art Programme and is designed to help you find out about the local, national and international artists that have made permanent artworks in the future Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The current exhibition features artist Keith Wilson whose brightly coloured sculptural Steles have become an memorable as well as functional feature in the future Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. 35 steles connect the parkland with the river and the canal and while each are strong enough to support a boat, they are also vibrant and colourful sculptures, celebrating the park and the people that have used it so far and the many more that will use it in future.

Since making the steles Keith has been working with the Forestry Commission in Grizedale Forest in the Lake District, where he has been creating his own sculptural logs that will sit in and amongst the forest and mark a new trail.  His exhibition at the View Tube will show you more about the Steles and the making of them and the ideas that connect them with his new work at Grizedale Forest.  A strong connection and flow between past, present and future works is an ever-present element within Keith’s practice and visitors to the View Tube will be able to interact with, touch and play with his latest sculptures, one of which he has kindly donated to the View Tube garden.

Exhibition Events
Keith Wilson will be working with local emerging artists as part of his commission and will also be giving a talk in conversation with curator Tom Morton on 17th May from 4-6pm as part of Museums at Night. Places for the talk are limited, please email [email protected] if you would like to attend.

A family day, featuring local artists who have worked with Keith and have created works in response to his exhibition, will take place on Wednesday 29th May 2013 at View Tube. Places at the family day are unlimited and do not need to be booked in advance.

The Sparked photo competition is also now open until the closing date of July 15th 2013. Judged by Turner Prize winning artist and previous Sparked exhibitor, Grenville Davey, the competition is open to all. Grenville is interested to know what you are looking at in East London in 2013 and invites you to send an image that you find interesting and would like to share with the public. Winning images will be exhibited at the View Tube and winners will be able to choose from a range of prizes. See here for further details on how to enter the competition.

The Sparked programme is funded by the Legacy List, the independent charity for the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and supported by Leaside Regeneration who manage the View Tube.
