Oslo Harbour: Slow Space (2012–16)

Situations' new commissions for Oslo harbour were launched last month to national acclaim with a project to prepare the ground for Amy Franceschini and Futurefarmers' proposal for a community bakehouse. Herligheten Parsellkollektiv (The Glory Allotment Collective) is an ecological initiative and test field inspired by historical artist works in the public realm such as Anges Denes' Wheatfield in Battery Park (1982).

Nearly 4000 residents applied for an allotment and on Saturday 12 May, the allotment collective was established through a weekend “dugnad” by volunteers. Read more and follow the project on the Oslo Slow Days blog.

Situations are producing the public art programme for Bjørvika, Oslo Harbour from 2012-16. Their curatorial vision for the newly redeveloped harbour area is inspired by the principles of slowness as advocated through the Slow movement and takes these ideas as the starting point for a consideration of how artists might contribute to creating new social spaces across Bjørvika.

The artists have now been announced for the programme and include Amy Franceschini and Futurefarmers, Heather and Ivan Morison and Katie Paterson.
